Most Used Make Up Of 2014

Make Up Favourites 2014

As we're nearly at the end of 2014, I feel like it's almost obligatory to do a round up of my favourite beauty products of the year. I've decided to separate make up and skincare as there's just too much to talk about in one post. For this post, I've focused on my most used make up of the year and have somehow managed to narrow it down to 10 products - which certainly wasn't easy! Here's what made the cut...

Eyes:

I tend to keep my eye makeup pretty simple on a day to day basis, only using eyeliner and colourful shadow for special occasions. I purchased Urban Decay Naked Basics at the very beginning of the year and I absolutely love it. It's such a simplistic palette with 6 very neutral matte shades but, for me, this is ideal. My daily eye usually consists of 'W.O.S' all over the lid and 'Naked 2' in the crease which just adds some subtle colour and definition to my eye for an everyday look.

I use Clinique High Impact Mascara on my lashes as it adds volume but without looking too drastic and, as I have quite sensitive eyes, a lot of mascaras tend to irritate me whereas this one has never caused a reaction.

Finally, Illamasqua Eye Brow Cake (in shade Thunder) is my go-to product for my brows. Admittedly, I only bought this a couple of months ago but I couldn't not include it as I've swapped my brow products loads this year but have finally found one that's here to stay since I discovered this offering from Illamasqua. (You can see a full review of this product here.)

Face:

I haven't included a primer in this line up as I've yet to find one I really love. Instead, my current base simply consists of foundation and a bit of this little gem: Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base. It's worth noting that I bought this a good 4-5 months ago and it's still going strong despite being grabbed for on a daily basis! This is basically a highlighting product which can be mixed with foundation or worn underneath it. I usually pop a little on my cheeks before applying the rest of my make up for a 'lit from within' look.

Since discovering Lancome Teint Miracle at the beginning of this year, I have repurchased it at least three times. I absolutely love this foundation and can't imagine I will change my mind for a while. I'd say it's a medium coverage foundation with a dewy finish which is perfect for everyday wear. It lasts a long time too - I'd say a bottle lasts me a good 2-3 months and I wear it every single day. On a night out, I might reach for something a bit more high coverage, but, in terms of a fail safe everyday foundation you just can't go wrong with this. I use shade 010 Porcelain Beige.

Cheeks:

MAC Mineralize SkinFinish in Soft and Gentle is quite possibly my favourite make up purchase of the year as it literally lasts forever! I bought this around February time and it's hardly gone down despite been used every day. I can't imagine needing to buy one of these for at least another year so it is definitely money well spent. I use this as a highlighter on my cheek bones and nose but you could use it anywhere really.

I actually received this mini Hoola Bronzing Powder last Christmas in a 'Best of Benefit' set but only started using it this summer when I decided I wanted to look like a bronzed goddess (ha.) I'd never really tried contouring until this point but armed with my Real Techniques contour brush I thought I'd give it a try. In my opinion, this is the perfect product for contouring as it's matte, light brown that can easily be worked on to look as light or dark as you wish. I often find some bronzers can look a bit dirty but, unless you were to absolutely pile this product on, I don't think you can go wrong with it.

This definitely wins the award for prettiest make up product and it works as good as it looks too - the Clinique Cheek Pop in Berry Pop has definitely been my most used blush since I bought it in the summer. Although I've probably been reaching for it less in the winter, I still find myself using it when I want to give myself a rosy glow. Don't be put off by how bright it looks as all this means is that you only have to use a little bit of product to see an effect.

Lips:

Out of all my lip products, I have definitely opted for MAC Creme Cup the most often this year. It's probably one of MAC's most well known lipsticks and, I can see why, as it's a perfect pale pink colour with a creamy, yet pigmented, texture that goes with almost any make up look, day or night.

Nails:

Whenever I paint my nails, I pretty much always go for a Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail PaintThe one photographed is 'Chai', an understated slate colour, which is a current favourite, but I actually own quite a few different shades from this range and like them all. The formula of this polish is thick, shiny and lasts for a good few days without chipping. And for under £4, it's well worth owning a few different colours! I have tried high end nail varnishes that cost about four times as much as this yet are nowhere near as good quality.

So there you have it. I could have listed so many more great products but I would have been here all day! (Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for a further installment of 2014 favourites when the spotlight will be on skincare.)

What have been your most-used beauty products this year? Do any of my favourite items feature?

  8. Thanks for leaving your link in the blogger chat! :) you have a lovely blog. I enjoyed this post, I'm always nosey when it comes to seeing the products that people actually use on a day to day basis, as opposed to lots of reviews :) I've been wanting to try that foundation but waiting to use up my current one before I do. All the best for the new year :) Saida xx

  15. Hmm still debating between the Naked Basics and the Naked Basics 2, but this is the second time I've seen the Naked Basics 2 on someone's 2014 favorites list! Creme Cup looks like a beautiful everyday shade, and pinky nudes are my favorites so that looks pretty good :)
