9 Ways To Pick Yourself Up When You're Feeling Down


It's Tuesday and, for most of us, that means THREE whole more days to get through after today until the weekend (soz for the reminder there, guys.) So that means that being positive and upbeat is sometimes a tad hard. Here's a few ways to pick yourself up if you find yourself feeling a bit down...

1) Create a 'happy' playlist
Don't go listening to the Titanic theme song when you're feeling down or, chances are, it might make you feel even worse. Instead, think of the songs that instantly make you smile, put them all on a playlist and whack it on when you're feeling a bit under the weather. You might even end up so lost in pretending you're Beyonce, you'll forget what you were even down about in the first place (here's hoping huh?)

2) Watch something funny
Although it can be tempting to watch sad films and TV shows to reflect your mood, don't! Do the opposite. Watch something that'll make you laugh your head off and turn that frown upside down ;)
3) Get outside
Getting outside in the open air (as long as it's not chucking it down obvs) can do wonders for clearing your head and helping you get a fresh perspective on things. This is something I really need to do more as I'm so guilty of just wanting to hide away in the covers and feel sorry for myself when I'm in a bad mood.

4) Sleep
Because, sometimes, you've just gotta sleep it off. Turn your phone off, have a hot drink at the ready and go to bed nice and early with a book or magazine for company. Again, this is something I really want to start doing more often as constantly being tired only seems to enhance those down days.

5) Talk to someone
Find someone who's happy to listen to your moaning for an hour or so and just tell them what's on your mind. It'll feel good to get it off your chest. If you haven't got anyone to rant speak to, then blog about it or write it down somewhere. Usually these types of blog posts I keep churning out are a result of me being in a crap mood and needing somewhere to just ramble on! (Soz bout that guys)

6) Pamper yourself
When I'm feeling down, I always feel a lot better if I give myself a little TLC by having a bath, putting a face mask on, painting my nails etc. It just gives me a nice little boost and leaves me feeling all refreshed and chilled out.

7) Think happy thoughts
Easier said than done, right? But if you really try to think of things that make you happy and grateful, it can be possible to shake off that shitty mood. I also like to set my phone background to some kind of positive quote so every time I look at it, it gives me a little boost. 8) Do something spontaneous!
I won't lie, I'm not a very spontaneous person at all. I like to have a routine and stick to it. However, it is nice to sometimes break free from that routine and do something out of the ordinary. Maybe going for a cheeky midweek meal out, driving somewhere completely random or visiting someone you haven't seen in ages. The worlds your oyster!

9) Put things into perspective
Sometimes you've just got to have a word with yourself. Remember it's only a bad day and not a bad life *hello cliche!* and focus on that rather than being down about silly little things that won't even matter in a weeks time.
