Autumn Evenings

Fleecy pyjamas on, dressing gown on, slipper socks on and a throw draped around me for good measure, I settle down on the sofa with a hot chocolate in hand and feel blissful. It's dark outside, perhaps it's raining too, but all I know is that I'm cosy and content, curled up on the sofa with a night of soaps and series ahead of me.

These nights make me happy. Happy I have a home. Happy I have a soft, warm bed awaiting me. Happy I can pop the kettle on and indulge in a hot chocolate and maybe even raid the cupboards for a midnight snack. These are the little things we so often take for granted. There's a chill in the air outside but the roof above our heads, the gift of central heating and the fluffy dressing gown wrapped around us means we barely even notice that.

We need not wonder how low the temperatures may be or how the winds may blow a gale, should we step outside the front door. And I realise how lucky I am to be able to say I enjoy these dark, cold Autumn nights; snuggled up in bed, with the sound of the television to drown out any telltale signs of a storm brewing.

Because I know that this midweek, run of the mill, Autumn evening spent under the covers with a cup of tea to keep me warm and an episode of Hollyoaks to keep me entertained, is nothing out of the ordinary for me, but it would still be more than a luxury for some...
