It's Okay To Do Nothing

Ever feel like even though it's your day off, you should still be doing something? If you haven't made actual plans for a day out or something, then there's usually some kind of cleaning, tidying or general faffing about to do... Which doesn't leave a lot of time to just chill. Switch off, stay in your pyjamas and simply do nothing.

I often feel guilty if I spend a day of doing nothing. Like surely I'm missing something? An email I need to send, an event I'm forgetting about, some work that needs to be done... usually there isn't. It's just my hyperactive mind feeling like I always have to be busying myself, rather than just taking some time out to do nothing of importance.

I think the motto 'work hard, play hard' often makes us think we should be making the most of our time off. Weekends go by quickly and annual leave is like golddust, for most of us, so we should be doing something with our time off, shouldn't we? Well, not necessarily...

Sometimes we need a day to relax. I realise this is easier said than done for some people. If you have kids to look after, then a day to yourself might be a lot harder than it is for those of us who don't! I'm at a stage in life where I don't have anyone I'm responsible for. Which means I should be making the most of free time when I have it! Not feeling guilty for not being productive when, really, I don't actually need to be.

My ideal day is staying at home all day, having a lie in, not getting dressed, drinking lots of hot drinks, eating tasty comfort food *maybe even ordering a takeaway*, getting lost in a book or TV series and just generally switching my mind off from the world with absolutely no plans for the whole day.

I don't think that's a bad thing. If anything, these days make me want to be even more productive the following day because I feel relaxed, refreshed and ready for what's to come.

So, that's exactly what I'm doing today. A big fat nothing. (Aside from writing this blog post of course because I was feeling kinda guilty about not posting for a week, oops!)

What do you think? Do you ever feel guilty for having a day of doing nothing?
