When I think about festival bag essentials, lots of things come to mind ranging from wet wipes to dry shampoo to wellies to, well, a tent, duh. But a straightener/curler/any kind of heated hair tool was definitely not on that list. Until now...
Meet the Glamoriser Free-Styler*: a cordless heated styler that is only just bigger than my hand! It's lightweight, compact and can last for up to 40 minutes on the go, once charged. Not bad, huh? Now, I've tried portable stylers before (y'know the ones that cost like £20 from Argos) and they've usually been pretty naff. But the Glamoriser is much more advanced thanks to it's super silky plates that just glide through my hair and the fact it actually gets really hot. Almost as hot as my GHD's. (There are two heat settings: 180 or 200 degrees.)
Because the Free-Styler is so lightweight and small, you'll barely even notice its in your bag. So it's ideal for bringing with you on nights away, to festivals or just for those day to day hair emergencies when you leave the house with super sleek hair and the wind wrecks it within 20 minutes. It can be used for straightening or curling (although I did find it a little difficult to curl with as I'm used to using a wand) and it works pretty well. It's not as good as my GHD's - what is? But it's miles better than any other portable, cordless styler I've ever tried before. I also like the fact you don't need to buy batteries for it. Instead, you just charge it up for a couple of hours and then it'll have about 40 minutes worth of use. It also heats up and cools down really quickly too so you don't need to worry about it setting something on fire in your bag (to be on the safe side, though, it does come with a cute glittery
pouch for storage.)
I was challenged with creating some festival hairstyles, using the styler, so here's what I came up with...

1) THE TOPKNOT
This is one of my go-to hairstyles when I'm not at work as it's just so easy and, for some bizarre reason, seems to be seriously on trend at the moment. I am not complaining! I straightened the ends with the Free-Styler and then simply scraped the top half into a cute lil knot. No-one wants a sweaty fringe or bits of hair in their face when you're dancing away at a festival so this works perfectly.
2) THE BRAID
Because it's basically illegal not to wear braids at a festival, right? Just FYI, I found it really hard to angle myself for this photo so I had to go for a mirror pose, soz about that. I simply went over my ends again with the Free-Styler to make my hair super straight and then grabbed a big section from the front, pulled to one side, and did a dutch braid along the top half which ran into a standard run of the mill plait towards the end. Braids are ideal for covering up greasy bits so I find they are an absolute winner for festivals. Plus they look cool, so there's that.
3) MILKMAID BRAIDS
By day 3, it's likely you'll probably be so sick of the sight of your unwashed, matted hair that you just won't even want to look at it or touch it. So, shoving it up into some sort of up-do is defo the best option. The problem with my hair, however, is that if I scrape it back into a bun or ponytail it'll actually end up highlighting the grease even more, ew. So by putting my hair into two standard plaits, and then piling them up on top of my head, I manage to conceal my greasy roots and look like some kinda Grecian goddess (lols). I left out my shorter bits at the front, as they kept falling out of the plaits, and curled with the Free-Styler. This hairstyle is so easy but I just think it looks really chic and seems to be a festival favourite!
