A Getaway In Liverpool With #BloggerLodge

Bit late with the old posting today, aren't I? But HERE I AM with day 6 of daily December posting, yay. Last Sunday, Josh and I got blown to the train station by gale force winds and set off on our journey to Liverpool to spend a few nights in the Travelodge as part of the #BloggerLodge campaign. Here's what we got up to...

We booked our train tickets in advance so got them pretty darn cheap and it took us about an hour and a half to get to Liverpool Lime Street station. We realised that the hotel we were staying in, The Liverpool Central Strand Travelodge, was only a minutes walk from another station in Liverpool (James Street) so we got the handy little merseyrail service from Lime Street to James Street which only took about 5 mins. Very convenient!
We checked straight in and did what all 21st century couples do when checking into a hotel these days - connect to the wifi. It cost £3 for 24 hours for 2 devices which I didn't think was bad at all. And the internet was a lot speedier than I was expecting too!
Our room was simplistic and pretty basic - like what you'd expect from a Travelodge, really - but was a lot more modern than I was expecting! The hotel is a great base for anyone wanting to explore the city as it's literally opposite the Albert Docks (we had a nice waterfront view from our window) and only a 5 minute walk from the huge shopping complex, Liverpool One.

On our first night, we went to Pizza Express within the Liverpool One complex for dinner. Doughballs to start then I had my all time fave pizza, the Giardiniera, and a cheeky lil cheesecake to finish. YUMMY. We then had a wild night in watching X Factor, I'm A Celeb and Harry Potter in bed (which was really comfy, too!)

After tucking into a tasty breakfast at the hotel, we spent most of Monday doing our Christmas shopping as Liverpool One is basically a shopaholics dream. I just wish the weather had been better though as it's an open air complex which wasn't great it was windy and rainy ALL DAY. We went to Zizzi for food on Monday night which is also within Liverpool One because we had 50% off mains with o2 priority, oh yeah. I know, I know - I'm really bad for not trying out more independent restaurants when I go exploring but it's usually just because I have deals or vouchers for chain ones and I know I like them.

I made the most of the all you can breakfast on our last day and had a full English followed by croissants with Nutella. How cute are those mini nutella's though, srsly?! We then ventured across the road to have a walk around the docks. We had planned to visit the Tate museum but were told by the hotel we couldn't leave our luggage with them which was a bit annoying as we didn't really want to be traipsing around with our cases.

But we enjoyed a breezy walk along the docks, regardless and took a few snaps along the way. There's benches scattered all over so I imagine it would be even nicer in Summer as you could sit and have a lil picnic on the waterfront! There's also a cute mini version of the lovelock bridge in Paris where people have put padlocks on the chains of the barrier that overlook the river.

Overall, we had a lovely stay in a very clean, modern hotel and I'd definitely visit Liverpool again - but maybe in better weather, next time!
Have you been to Liverpool before?
