A Little Living Room Refresh

Hey y'all - hope you all had a fab weekend and made the most of the sun (is anyone else wishing they could just pull a week long sickie and sunbathe for the rest of the week? I know I am!) Anyways, I've been sprucing up my living room recently - you know when you just decide you hate everything about a room and NEED to improve it immediately? Yeah, that. I've bought a few new pieces of furniture and also some other bits and bobs to just make the place look a bit homely and I'm pretty haps with it now, so thought I'd share some of the updates with you...

When we first moved into our flat, over 2 years ago now, we chose all black/brown furniture for our living room because I'd gone for white everywhere else. I ended up getting a bit fed up of how dark it was making the living room looked so decided to look for some new bits that weren't too expensive but would just make the room feel a bit more homely and fresh! I decided to go for an oak and black colour scheme so I could still keep some of the existing furniture but get rid of bits I wasn't so keen on. I sold our old TV unit and coffee table on Gumtree for about half the price I paid for them on Ikea. They were literally dirt cheap to buy in the first place (I think the table was a tenner!) so the fact that I still managed to make any money off them 2 years later was a massive bonus. I'd defo recommend Gumtree if you're looking to sell any old furniture as our stuff sold in a matter of days.

I bought all our new furniture from Very - which I have mixed feelings about. I love the furniture we bought - it was good value and looks a lot more expensive than it was but the customer service is shocking! We had a lot of trouble with missed deliveries and trying to communicate with them about it was a nightmare so just bear this in mind if you're ever considering buying anything from them.

Bad service aside, we ended up buying a new TV unit, a sideboard and a side table. My fave piece of furniture is definitely the side table. I love how the black top contrasts with the oak legs and the gold feet are a lovely touch. I decided I wanted to get a lamp to put on it and fell in love with this pineapple lamp from M&S! I was a bit put off by the fact the lamp cost more than the actual table (really!) but I'm thinking of it as an investment. Plus - it's just so pretty.

We got the sideboard originally to put our fishtank on but decided we preferred the Ikea Kallax it was already sitting on so decided to just use the sideboard for storage, instead. I've decorated it with a few prints, some fake flowers and a tealight lantern and I really like how it looks. To say I was unhappy with it when Josh first built it, it's definitely started to grow on me, now. I can't find links for any of these online, unfortunately but the canvas is from Poundstretcher, the frame from Sainsburys, tealight holder is by Card Factory and the fake flowers and vase are from Wilko!

I couldn't resist the 'Come sit next to me' cushion cover when I was last browsing H&M home and just had to buy it considering it was only £3.99! The geometric, black and white cushion is also from there, too. I buy all my cushion covers from there now as they're great quality and so inexpensive compared to a lot of other places.

What do you think of my new additions?
